Bring the conversation about SETI to your community
Public events can connect people with the science, technology and fundamental questions behind the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.
SETI Association is interested in working with individuals and organizations that would like to organize scientifically grounded SETI events in their cities.
An event could take the form of a public lecture, panel discussion, science café, workshop, screening followed by an expert discussion, university event or another format appropriate for the local community.
Who can organize an event?
You may be:
- a scientist, educator or science communicator;
- a university student or member of an academic organization;
- a representative of a planetarium, observatory, museum or science centre;
- the organizer of a local astronomy or science community;
- an experienced event organizer;
- someone prepared to build a local team and take responsibility for delivering the event.
You do not necessarily need to be a SETI expert. However, every event associated with SETI Association must maintain a clear scientific standard and avoid pseudoscience, sensationalism and unsupported claims.
What SETI Association may provide
Depending on the proposed event and our available capacity, we may be able to help with:
- developing the event concept and programme;
- identifying suitable topics or potential speakers;
- reviewing scientific content;
- providing communication and visual materials;
- promoting the event through our channels;
- connecting the event with the wider SETI community.
Local organizers are generally expected to coordinate the venue, local partners, production, audience outreach and other practical arrangements. The exact division of responsibilities will be agreed separately for each event.
Submission of a proposal does not automatically constitute approval, partnership or authorization to use the SETI Association name or visual identity.

You may apply with a developed event proposal or with an initial idea that you would like to explore. Please tell us about your city, intended audience, possible format and the resources already available to you.
